Independence day was a blast! Connor and Alaina were incredibly excited when I reminded them about it the day before, and I have made a mental note to not tell them until the actual day next year! They were so excited that they hopped out of bed at 5 AM!
We arrived at Grandma and Grandpa's just in time to get some lunch thrown on the grill. I'm kind of mad at myself that I didn't take a picture of the spread. In Marinda's words, "This is the best barbeque we've put together so far!" Love the photobomb, Kandis! :)
After lunch, the waterslide was put into action. Here comes the dish soap!
Ava and Alaina liked being shot down the slide by Dave the best.
Alaina actually went down the slide with her head in her hands...little poser!
Is this little girl who didn't cry about dish soap in her eyes the same little girl that cries bloody murder when I wash her hair with tear-free shampoo?
Sorry for the photo quality, but this one was too great to not post. Marshall wasn't a fan of the slide, apparently.
Janet made slushies!
Dad let out his now full-grown chickens and the kids loved to feed them little bits of bread.
We were lucky enough to have Great Grandma Broadhead with us to celebrate the day. I was so impressed with how unshy Connor was with her, and how proud he made me by being so sweet to her. He loved pulling up a chair next to her and talking her ear off. I could tell Grandma really enjoyed it and she made Connor feel special and heard.
At dusk, Dad had the idea to take the convertible out around the neighborhood and have our own one-car parade.
It really is amazing just how happy kids are to have candy thrown at them! :)
We played some pretty intense (for our non-competitive family!) games of badminton, and ended with a face-off between Mom and Dad.
A wonderful day was capped off by a great firework show by Kaysville City, enjoyed from the best seat in the house, Grandma and Grandpa's front lawn. One little pig-tailed girl had too much fun during the day and didn't quite make it through the show (that's the outline of her head on my lap). :)
Sorry for all of the shutter-clicks right in front of you, Eyrings! Fireworks and hand-held cameras aren't the best together, but I at least got one shot!
The kids were the most worn out I've ever seen them, and despite sleeping in this morning, Alaina couldn't stay awake through a 6:30 story time tonight! That's the sign of a great 4th of July!
